Men’s Basketball Heads to N.Y. for Matchup with Hofstra

The Elon men’s basketball team will battle Hofsta in the consolation round of the Dick’s Sporting Goods NIT Season Tip-Off Tournament on Monday night in Mack Sports Complex. The game is scheduled to tip at 7 p.m. The Phoenix and Pride have never met on the hardwood, despite the lengthy history of the two programs. Both teams are coming off Friday night victories and have 2-2 records in 2009-10. Elon will be aiming for its first-ever win in the NIT.

Elon Wins at Samford; Will Learn Playoff Fate Sunday

In a battle of two of the country’s top-15 defenses, it was the Elon offense which was able to put points on the board to lead the 10th-ranked Phoenix to a 27-7 Southern Conference football victory over the home-standing Samford Bulldogs in the regular-season finale for both squads. The win improved Elon to 9-2 overall and 7-1 in the SoCon and improved the Phoenix’s chances for a playoff berth. The nine-win season was the first for the program since 1999.

Bonney, Spradlin Lead Phoenix to Win Over Devils

Sophomores Josh Bonney and Drew Spradlin each eclipsed the 20-point barrier for the second time this season as the Elon men’s basketball team cruised to a 102-68 victory over Fairleigh Dickinson-Florham in the Phoenix’s home opener at Alumni Gym on Friday night. Bonney led the team for the fourth consecutive game, dumping in 23 points on 8-of-12 from the field. Spradlin added 22 points behind the strength of three triples.

Elon Improves to 2-1 with Win Over St. Andrews

Elon (2-1) scored its most points since moving to Division I as it defeated St. Andrews (0-2) 104-27 in women’s basketball action Friday evening in Alumni Gym. Sophomore Gabby Oloye scored Elon’s 101st and 102nd point on a jumper with 33 seconds remaining in the game to best the previous record of 101 points, which came in a quadruple-overtime loss to Western Carolina in 2008. Freshman Ali Ford wrote herself into the Elon record book with seven three-pointers in a game.
