Elon Hands Davidson a 77-63 Loss

The Elon women’s basketball team (10-15, 5-11) shot lights out, connecting on 41.4 percent of its shots from the field, as it handed Davidson (12-11, 10-5) a 77-63 loss in Southern Conference action at Belk Arena in Davidson, N.C., on Monday night. It was the first win against the host Wildcats since 2008 and just the fifth all time.

Elon Knocks Off North Division Leader Western Carolina 81-76

The Elon men’s basketball team staved off a furious Western Carolina comeback to knock off the Southern Conference North Division leader, 81-76, on Monday night at Alumni Gym. The Phoenix (6-17, 4-8) has won its last two contests and six straight home games against the Catamounts. Western Carolina (18-7, 8-5) dropped back-to-back contests for the first time this season. Elon had five players in double figures.

Full Day of Fun with the Phoenix on Feb. 13

The Elon Department of Athletics has a full weekend of fun planned surrounding a basketball doubleheader on Saturday, Feb. 13. The whole day is Youth Day and fans ages 12 and under receive free admission to both games and are invited to take part in activities throughout the day. The women’s team takes on Western Carolina at 2 p.m. in the squad’s annual Pink Zone game before the men host The Citadel in a televised contest at 6 p.m.

This Week in Elon Athletics

The 2009-10 Elon Phoenix athletic season continues this week as numerous teams will be in action. The softball team begins its season on Saturday when it welcomes Virginia and UNC Wilmington for the Phoenix Leadoff Classic. The men’s and women’s basketball teams will host a double-header on Saturday, while the men’s tennis team and women’s indoor track team continue their spring seasons.
