No. 12/14 Elon (8-3) and No. 20/22 Liberty (9-2) are meeting for the 12th time in a series that began in 1976 – This time with a possible NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision playoff berth on the line for the winning team. The Phoenix (7-4) and the Flames (8-3), who recently captured their second consecutive Big South Conference title, both narrowly missed a playoff spot last season. The teams are meeting for the first time as top-25 foes.

Ervin Signs With Elon Men's Basketball Program

Forward Brett Ervin (Buckhannon, W.Va./Robert C. Byrd HS) has chosen to sign a National Letter of Intent to play basketball for the Elon Phoenix beginning with the 2009-10 season Elon head coach Ernie Nestor announced on Wednesday. Ervin is the first signee for the Phoenix this year and will join fellow West Virginia natives Chris Long and TJ Douglas on the Elon squad next year. Brett is the son of Michael and the late Christy Ervin.

James Powers Elon Past Southern Virginia

Brett James posted a pair of game highs with 20 points and eight rebounds, pushing Elon to an 83-55 non-league victory over Southern Virginia in the Phoenix’s home opener Tuesday night at Alumni Gym. Elon canned 53.0 percent (35 of 66) of its attempts from the floor – 44.4 percent (8 of 18) from beyond the arc – but just 41.7 percent (5 of 12) from the charity stripe. The Phoenix forged advantages in rebounding (46-26), assists (24-10), turnovers (17-20), blocked shots (3-1) and steals (13-8).

Wall Records Double-Double in 41-65 Loss to NC State

Elon held the nation’s leading scorer from last season Shayla Fields to just three points in a 41-65 loss to NC State at Reynolds Arena in Raleigh, N.C. Despite the loss, junior Amber Wall recorded her first double-double of the season with a team-leading 11 points and 10 rebounds. Elon is back in action Friday, Nov. 21 when it travels to Greensboro, N.C. to face the N.C. A&T Aggies in a 7 p.m. game. The game marks the second game of a four-game road trip.
