7/2/2009The Southern Conference and SportSouth today announced the 2009 Southern Conference football telecast schedule, during which Elon will make two appearances. Branded SoCon Saturdays, the Southern Conference football schedule on SportSouth includes eight football games and features all nine conference schools. Former Super Bowl player and coach Sam Wyche and play-by-play announcer Tom Werme return for their third season in the SportSouth booth for the SoCon Saturdays package. Story
Elon Enhances Rudd Field7/2/2009Fans and supporters attending Elon soccer matches at Rudd Field will now have an opportunity to enjoy the action from permanently constructed bleachers. The project, which began in June, is nearing completion for the start of the 2009 season. The bleachers will accommodate 300 spectators and will have access points from both sides. The addition to Rudd Field will provide for better sight lines for spectators and provide a definite recruiting advantage for the Elon soccer programs. Story
Phoenix Places 28 on SoCon Academic All-Conference Team7/1/2009The Southern Conference announced its 2008-09 Spring Academic All-Conference Team on Wednesday which featured 28 Elon student-athletes among the 320 total honorees from the 12 member institutions. The top-performing Phoenix squad was the track and field program which landed eight members. To be eligible, a student-athlete must possess at least a 3.2 cumulative grade point average entering the spring season. Story
Matheny Adds Will Roberson to Elon Men’s Basketball Staff7/1/2009Elon head men’s basketball coach Matt Matheny has announced the addition of Will Roberson to his coaching staff. Roberson has a wealth of basketball experience ranging from the high school level to the ACC. He comes to Elon after spending the last year as an assistant coach at Emory University in Atlanta, Ga., where he was responsible for producing and presenting detailed scouting reports on all opponents while also assisting the head coach with the team’s overall strategy.
