SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- For the second time this season, red-shirt freshman kicker Adam Shreiner was recognized for his performance by the Southern Conference.  Three weeks after he was named the league's freshman of the week, Shreiner was named the SoCon's Special Teams Player of the Week as Elon improved to 7-1 overall and 5-0 in league play.  After its victory over Wofford, the Phoenix held steady at number six in both major polls this week.

Shreiner (Marietta, Ga.) made all six of his kick attempts during Elon's 34-6 rout of Wofford on Saturday, including two field goals and four PATs.  He booted field goals of 36 and 20 yards, improving to 12-of-15 on the season.  Shreiner currently ranks fourth in the SoCon and 17th nationally in scoring with 8.4 points per game.

The SoCon honor was the eighth of the year for the Phoenix, equaling the total number of league players of the week the squad earned in 2008.

Ranking sixth in both The Sports Network FCS top-25 and the FCS Coaches top-25 polls, the Phoenix held steady following its victory on Saturday.  Richmond continues to hold down the top spot in both rankings with the rest of the top-five – Montana, Southern Illinois, Villanova and William & Mary – also being the same.

In the coaches' rankings, Elon sits just ahead of seventh-place New Hampshire and eighth-place Appalachian State while ASU rates seventh and New Hampshire eighth in The Sports Network poll.  The ninth and tenth spots are also consistently held by South Dakota State and South Carolina State.

Elon returns to the field with a 1 p.m. kickoff at Western Carolina on Saturday afternoon.
