ELON, N.C. -- Elon sophomore running back
A.J. Harris was selected as a member of the
ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District III Football First Team, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Harris becomes the first Phoenix football player to earn this distinction since Reggie Hall and Danny Boback each earned spots in 2006. With his selection, Harris will appear on the national ballot for
ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America honors.
Harris, who has earned one Southern Conference Special Teams Player of the Week award this season, currently sports a 3.3 GPA in media arts and entertainment.
In eight games this season, Harris has rushed for 351 yards on 76 attempts and has found the end zone once on the ground. He has also caught 21 passes for 236 yards and a score. Harris, who also scored on a 35-yard return of a blocked punt, is second on the team in rushing and fourth on the squad in receiving yards.
Earlier this season, Harris rushed for a career-high 114 yards on a career-best 14 carries to lead the Phoenix to a 41-7 victory at Presbyterian. In his last outing, Harris caught a personal-high six passes for a season-high 62 yards as sixth-ranked Elon defeated Wofford 34-6.
To be eligible for nomination, student-athletes must have participated in at least 50 percent of their team's contests, be at least a sophomore athletically and carry a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.3.
