11/6/2009

ELON, N.C. – During the upcoming 2009-10 Elon Phoenix men’s basketball season, fans will be able to tune in to WPCM 920 AM to catch all the action which will be brought to them by the voices of long-time local sports anchor Greg Kerr and Elon alumnus Taylor Durham.

Kerr joins the Elon broadcast team after serving as the sports director and anchor at WFMY-TV in Greensboro, N.C.  In the past, Kerr has broadcasted events on ACC Select and filled in on delivering games for the Salem Red Sox and the Phoenix. During his career, Kerr has been honored with the Texas Associated Press “Sportscast of the Year” award as well as the Illinois Broadcasters Association “Best Sportscast” distinction.

Kerr has made stops as both a sportscaster and sports director at stations in San Angelo, Austin and Beaumont, Texas along with Springfield, Ill., and Oklahoma City, Okla., prior to arriving in the Triad.

Kerr is a graduate of the University of Central Oklahoma and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Broadcast Journalism. It was at UCO where he got his start in radio by serving in both the play-by-play and color commentator roles for the Bronchos’ football team. Kerr has spent this fall semester as an adjunct instructor in the Elon School of Communications teaching a sports broadcasting class.

Durham, a 1996 Elon graduate, has been working as the color commentator for the Phoenix football broadcasts this fall. He also currently hosts the Elon Football Radio Show each Thursday night during the squad’s season.

Durham has spent the past 10 years as the Network Recruitment Manager for ISP Sports in Winston-Salem, N.C. At ISP he is responsible for recruiting radio affiliates for as many as 10 different collegiate radio networks in the Southeast. He has also served as the studio and scoreboard host for the TCU ISP Sports Network during the football and basketball seasons since the 2006-07 broadcast year.

Durham has experience in the booth as well, handling the play-by-play duties for many area football and basketball teams. He was on-hand at the 2003 ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament as the play-by-play talent for the Clemson women’s basketball team.

As a student, Durham was involved in Elon football and basketball game broadcasts as a member of the Elon Sports Radio crew. In addition to his responsibilities as the color analyst for football broadcasts, Durham handled play-by-play duties during the 1994-95 basketball season. Durham was responsible for the production and broadcast operations for Elon Sports Radio from 1993-95.

All regular-season games can be heard locally on WPCM 920 AM. Fans can also listed to each road game online at elonphoenix.com free of charge. For Elon home contests, audio and video will be provided through Phoenix All-Access. Fans can purchase this service on a per game or season-pass basis.
