Judy Leads Elon at Hummingbird Intercollegiate

SAPPHIRE, N.C. -- Jayson Judy shot a one-under par 70 to tie for eighth individually while the Elon Phoenix sits in a tie for 15th place with a first round 295 following Monday's round of The Hummingbird Intercollegiate hosted by Western Carolina at the Country Club of Sapphire Valley.  Kentucky leads the 18-team field with a five-under 279.
 
Judy carded 12 pars and was even on par-four holes during his round on Monday.  Right behind Judy is Phil Bartholomew who posted a 72 in his first round of play.  Bartholomew led all players with 15 pars on day one and sits in a tie for 25th.
 
In a tie for 75th is Tanner Norton who carded a 76, but parred 12 holes.  Scott Hockemeyer and Miller Robins both posted a round of 77 and are tied for 83rd to complete Elon's field.
 
Furman's Garland Ferrell leads the field after a first round total of 67.  Seven players are one stroke back. 
 
Southern Conference teams Furman (282) and Western Carolina (286) trail Kentucky atop the leaderboard.  Both Winthrop and Akron also shot 286 on Monday to tie for third.
 
Other SoCon programs participating include Samford (8th; 291), Wofford (T9th; 292), Appalachian State (T11th; 293), College of Charleston (14th; 294) and Chattanooga (18th; 300). 
 
The final round will be played on Tuesday in Sapphire, N.C.
