SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- After two October tournaments in which she placed first and sixth, Elon's
Tara McFadden was honored as the Southern Conference Women's Golfer of the Month. McFadden helped the Phoenix to two top-10 finishes on the month.
At the 2009 Lady Pirate Intercollegiate, McFadden tied tournament records for the lowest round (66) and 52-hole score (211) as she claimed the individual title and helped the Phoenix place fifth among a field which included nine top-100 programs. Over her three rounds, McFadden posted a tournament-best 12 birdies, made 33 pars, was -3 on par-five holes and -4 on the par-threes. The win was the second of the fall for McFadden, a junior from Thomasburg, Ontario, Canada.
McFadden followed that performance up by tying for sixth place at the 2009 Palmetto Intercollegiate where the team placed 10th. In this event, she finished -1 on par-three holes and made 37 pars.
During the fall, McFadden competed in 10 rounds and averaged a score a 72.40 as Elon's number one golfer.
