SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Elon freshman Cali Estes, a setter and right side hitter, was named the Southern Conference Volleyball Freshman of the Week, the league office announced today, Oct. 4. It is the first time this season a Phoenix volleyball player has received player of the week honors by the SoCon.
The Carmel, Ind. native led the team in assists with 54, averaging 4.91 assists per set in Elon’s three matches against North Carolina A&T, Appalachian State and Western Carolina. Estes also recorded 13 kills and seven block assists to help the Phoenix improve to 11-9 on the season (3-1 SoCon).
In the win over North Carolina A&T, Estes led Elon with 15 assists and hit .364 with only two errors on 11 attempts and six kills.
At Western Carolina, Estes recorded a career-high 27 assists, while also earning four kills and two block assists.
Elon will host UNC Greensboro on Friday, Oct. 8, before taking on Furman on Saturday. Both matches will begin at 6 p.m. in Jordan Gym.
