Riddle Closes Out Career With Player of the Week Honors


SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- Elon senior quarterback Scott Riddle closed out his career in the maroon and gold by earning the Southern Conference Offensive Player of the Week following his record-setting performance in the Phoenix's 45-14 victory over Western Carolina.

Riddle, who was also named the FCS National Performer of the Week by CollegeFootballPerformance.com, completed 25 of his 37 pass attempts for a season-high 452 yards and a personal-best five touchdowns in Elon's win.  The 452 yards were the most by a SoCon signal caller this season and rate as the eighth-highest total ever in league history.  His performance also propelled him into the SoCon's top spot on the passing chart this season with 3,231 yards.  Riddle is now the first player in the storied history of the SoCon to lead the league in passing in four consecutive seasons.  Riddle closed out his career by setting a new league standard by tossing at least one touchdown in 22 consecutive games.  In all, Riddle threw a TD pass in 44 of his 45 career games.

Through the end of the regular season, Riddle ranks fourth all-time at the FCS level with 13,264 career passing yards.  He also currently rates as the all-time FCS leader in completions with 1,168.  In his four seasons, Riddle threw 105 touchdown passes and passed for 200+ yards 40 times, 300+ yards 23 times and 400+ yards three times.

Also recognized this week by CollegeFootballPerformance.com as Performers of the Week at the wide receiver position were Aaron Mellette and Sean Jeffcoat.  Mellette caught nine passes for 153 yards and two touchdowns while Jeffcoat finished with seven catches for a career-high 161 yards and a touchdown.
