Patti Raduenz announced today, Aug. 31.
“I couldn't be more pleased to add the passion and desire of Monica Wright to match what this program already has,” Raduenz said. “Coach Wright has been determined throughout her career as a player to find a way to get it done on the field and in classroom. That type of determination and character is a cornerstone of our program. In addition, she is committed to advancing the student-athlete experience, committed to the academic achievements of our student-athletes and committed to building champions.”
Wright, a four-year letterwinner for the Hoosiers from 2007-10, made 124 career appearances in the circle during her career, tallying 30 victories in 559.2 innings pitched to go along with 348 strikeouts and a 4.20 ERA. Wright graduated from IU in the spring of 2010 with a Bachelor of Science in kinesiology.
“I am thrilled about the opportunity to coach at Elon and to be a part of a great tradition being built here,” Wright said. "I am extremely excited to work with the pitching staff as well as the rest of the team, especially after last season’s run to the Southern Conference Tournament Championship. This is a wonderful coaching staff to be a part of and I am looking forward to learning from them.”
A native of Morrison, Ill., Wright also spent time as a pitching instructor this past summer at Elite Sports Performance in Oswego, Ill. where she educated pitchers on proper pitching mechanics and fundamentals, as well as leading conditioning and agility drills.
A three-year letterwinner at Morrison High School, Wright earned all-conference honorable mention as a sophomore and was a first-team all-conference selection her junior and senior years. She was also a three-time all-area team selection, garnering second-team all-state honors as a junior and first-team all-state accolades her senior season. Wright led Morrison to four Three Rivers Athletic Conference (Trac 8) titles and earned the conference's player of the year award on two occasions.
