Elon Cheer Teams Attend National Cheerleading Association Camp

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- The Elon cheerleading teams and mascot recently attended a college cheer camp hosted by the National Cheerleading Association (NCA) in Myrtle Beach, S.C. where both the co-ed and all-female team were evaluated on game day and rally routines.

After working together for three days, the teams were put into high-intensity classes learning new cheers, stunts, basket tosses, and pyramids.

“We struggled at first, but overall we came together well as a new team,” said all-female team member Lizzie Balazs, a sophomore.

Both teams received superior ribbons in the evaluations of their routine. The all-female team competed in the game day competition where teams are judged on their spirit, skills and overall crowd appeal. The Elon program placed third in its division.

Two of Elon’s mascots also attended camp with the teams where they had the opportunity to participate in classes and learn new crowd involvement techniques. Both performed skits along side mascots from schools such as Virginia Tech and South Carolina. At the end of camp, both Elon representatives were selected as NCA All-American mascots.
