ELON, N.C. – Elon University has announced the addition of two staff members to its athletics media relations office. Joining the staff are Garrett Wright as the assistant director of media relations for multi-media services and Dan Wyar as an assistant director of media relations for athletics.
Wright joins Elon after working in the event productions department of ESPN in Bristol, Conn. since March. Prior to his experience at ESPN, Wright spent time as a student worker for the University of Nebraska’s HuskerVision where he won the HuskerVision Special Feature of the Year award in 2008. Wright also worked on big screen productions for the Lincoln Saltdogs baseball team. Wright earned a bachelor’s degree in broadcast and news-editorial journalism from Nebraska in December of 2009.
At Elon, Wright will coordinate the department’s multi-media efforts on elonphoenix.com that will include highlight videos from home events, weekly previews and end-of-year highlight packages.
Wyar comes to Elon after serving as a graduate assistant in athletic media relations at Eastern Michigan University for the past two seasons. At EMU, Wyar was the primary contact for the Eagle baseball, women’s gymnastics, men’s and women’s cross country and rowing squads. He also produced numerous media guides and served as the color commentator for EMU’s baseball team. In May, Wyar served as the official statistician for the United States women’s soccer game against Germany. Wyar earned his bachelor’s degree in education and sport management from Bowling Green State University in December of 2007 before graduating from Eastern Michigan with a master’s in sport management in April of 2010.
Included among the sports that Wyar will cover at Elon are women’s basketball and softball.
