SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Ali Deatsch has been named the Southern Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced today.
The junior helped Elon to a 2-0 record over the weekend with wins against division opponents Western Carolina and Appalachian State. Deatsch led all players with 16 digs in the team’s sweep of Western Carolina. She recorded 36 digs over the weekend, averaging 5.14 per set. The Elmhurst, Ill., native leads the conference in service aces (36) and is fourth in digs (322).
This marks the second time of the season that Deatsch has earned defensive player of the week honors and the sixth time an Elon player has been honored by the conference this year.
The Phoenix will travel to Birmingham, Ala., for a match at Samford at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 8.
