Chris Dockrill announced that he has signed three players to National Letters of Intent to play for the Phoenix beginning in 2012-13. Joining the maroon and gold next fall will be Emily Brooks (Chapel Hill, N.C./Northwood), Kathryn Buckingham (Boise, Idaho/Centennial) and Sunna Vidisdottir (Reykjavik, Iceland/The Commercial College of Iceland).
Brooks won the 2011 Tarheel Youth Golf Association (TYGA) championship as well as the 2011 Jimmy Anderson Invitational crown. In 2011 she also finished first at the Peggy Kirk Bell Girls Golf Tour's SC University Classic. Brooks earned a third-place finish at the 2011 Twin States Junior Girls event. As of Nov. 10, 2011, Brooks was rated second in the Carolina Golf Association/TYGA junior girls rankings. A second-team all-state selection in 2010, Brooks helped her Northwood team to a runner-up finish at the 1A/2A North Carolina state championships in 2011 where she also finished as the runner-up. That same year, the program was the Eastern Regional medalist. A three-time league golfer of the year, Brooks was an all-region pick in soccer in 2010.
Emily is the daughter of former Wake Forest baseball player Philip and Martha Brooks.
Buckingham is a three-time Junior World participant who earned medalist honors at the 2011 Eagle City Amateur. She was named a second-team All-American by Future Collegians World Tour (FCWT) for 2010-11. Buckingham finished in the top 10 from 2009-11 in the Idaho Golf Association state championship event and claimed medalist honors at the 2010 FCWT at TCP Las Vegas tournament. As a competitor in the championship flight at the 2010 Pacific Northwest Golf Association's Junior Girls event, Buckingham earned a fifth-place tie. Buckingham was the 2010 district champ. She helped lead coach Ken Spraker's Centennial program to district crowns in both 2009 and 2010 as well as a fourth-place showing in the state from 2009-11. Individually, Buckingham was a first-team all-district selection from 2009-11 and a three-time All-SIC Academic Team member. She also served as a team captain in 2010 and 2011.
Kathryn is the daughter of former Ohio State volleyball player Mike and former Georgia volleyball player Liz Buckingham.
Vidisdottir participated as a member of the 2011 Icelandic Ladies National Golf Team and for the Icelandic Junior National Golf Team from 2007-11. She represented Iceland in the 2011 European Ladies Amateur Team Championship in Austria and again at the European Ladies Club Trophy in Greece in both 2010 and 2011. She also represented her nation at the European Young Masters in France in 2009 and in Hungary in 2010 as well as at the International Children's Games in San Francisco, Calif., in 2008. This year she achieved a third-place ranking in the Icelandic Women's Golf Tournament Series and collected the "Brightest Future in Icelandic Women's Golf" honor. Vidisdottir became the youngest player tot win a tournament in the Icelandic Ladies Golf Series in 2010 when she won the series' final event of the year. In 2010, Vidisdottir was recognized with the "Outstanding Achievement in Junior Golf" award by the Reykjavik Sports Union. She participated in the 2009 U.S. Junior Masters and won the Icelandic Junior Match Play Championship in 2008. Vidisdottir helped her home club of Reykjavik GC to the Icelandic Women's Team Championship in both 2010 and 2011 as well as the 2008, 2009 and 2010 Icelandic Junior Team Championship titles. Vidisdottir graduated among the top 10 in her class at The Commercial College of Iceland.
Sunna is the daughter of Vidir Arsaelsson and Sigurlaug Skirnisdottir.
