KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) has awarded the Elon men's soccer squad one of its highest team accolades. The Phoenix program has been named one of 218 men's recipients of the NSCAA Team Academic Award for the 2010-11 academic year. Elon was one of just 154 institutions nationally, and one of four SoCon schools, to have both its men's and women's programs earn the honor this year.
"Our players continue to work hard both in the classroom and on the field," said head coach
Darren Powell. "One of our goals is to have a team GPA of at least 3.0. I also want to thank our academic coordinators, Jayme Pendergast and Cayce Crenshaw, for their support."
The Team Academic Award is presented to programs which boast a minimum of a team GPA of 3.0 the previous academic year. This award is given for the 2010-11 academic year during which the men's program sported a 3.14 GPA. The men have now been recognized in three consecutive years.
