CHAPEL HILL, N.C. --
After a solid first three innings, the Elon Phoenix saw its contest against 14th-ranked North Carolina quickly go south.  The Tar Heels notched two five-run innings on their way to a 16-0 victory over the Phoenix on Tuesday, snapping Elon's winning streak at three.

Elon (8-5) was held to just three hits, two of which came in the ninth inning off the bats of Ben Scott and Matt Kirchner.

The game was scoreless until the bottom of the fourth when the Tar Heels (12-1) grabbed a 1-0 lead on a two-out single from Jeff Bouton that drove home Jesse Wierzbicki who had led the inning off with a double to left.

Tommy Coyle led off the bottom of the fifth with a single up the middle and stole second while Levi Michael struck out.  After a walk to Jacob Stallings and a balk put two in scoring position for UNC, Colin Moran lined a single up the middle to drive home Coyle to make it a 2-0 game.  Wierzbicki followed by drawing a walk to load the bases before Chaz Frank who layed down a bunt that went for a single that plated Stallings. After a wild pitch let Stallings score the fourth UNC run.  With two away, Bouton beat out a slow grounder to short as two more runs scored to make it a 6-0 Tar Heel lead.

North Carolina tacked on five more in the sixth, including a three-RBI double from Greg Holt, to stretch its lead to 11-0 before scoring once more in the eighth.  Finally, the Heels scored their final four runs in the last of the eighth to provide the final margin.

Dylan Clark (0-3) took the loss after giving up five runs on five hits and five walks in 4.1 innings.  All told, four Elon pitchers issued 13 walks on the night.

UNC's Kent Emanuel (2-0) held the Phoenix to just one hit over six innings while fanning five.

Elon's first hit was a Niko Fraser single in the second inning.

For the Tar Heels, Moran finished the day 2-for-5 with two runs scored and five RBI while both Holt and Bouton drove in three runs.

The Phoenix will get right back on the diamond tomorrow, hosting Saint Joseph's in a 4 p.m. game from Latham Park.
