CLIFTON, Va. – Over 60 Elon alumni, parents and friends gathered on the links at Westfields Country Club on June 10 for the second annual Elon DC Alumni Chapter Golf Tournament, hosted by the chapter and the Phoenix Club. The group, which included new Phoenix head football coach Jason Swepson and Elon Director of Athletics Dave Blank, enjoyed a successful day on the course and dinner following the golf outing. The DC chapter also made a $1,000 contribution to the Phoenix Club.
“Membership in the Phoenix Club is integral to the success of Elon athletics,” noted Blank who spoke to the group during dinner. “It is great to have strong support from the DC Alumni Chapter and we appreciate the contributions of all the individuals who competed in the tournament.”
“This was a very well-organized event and it was wonderful to have the opportunity to meet many of our DC alumni,” mentioned Swepson. “There was a true sense of excitement surrounding all of our athletic programs and I look forward to seeing many of these folks in the stands at Rhodes Stadium this fall.”
Lindsey Goodman Baker ’04, former chapter president, organized the tournament and was very impressed by the support of the alumni as well as the support of the Phoenix Club.
“Any time that we can bring Elon alumni, parents and friends together to reconnect them with the university, it’s a positive thing,” said Baker. “I am happy that we have developed an annual golf tournament to help support Elon’s Phoenix Club as well as our local chapter. We have hosted this outing for two years now and we are hopeful that it will be a continued tradition in the DC area.”
