SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Elon rookie midfielder Bethany Houpt has been named the Southern Conference Women’s Soccer Player of the Week, the league office announced today, Sept. 20.
 
Houpt led the Phoenix to a 2-0 shutout over in-state rival High Point on Friday night, Sept. 16, at Rudd Field, as the first-year player from Exton, Pa., blasted two second-half goals in the 71st and 76th minute. Houpt’s score in the 71st minute was her first collegiate goal.
 
Elon opens league play on Friday when it hosts Samford at 7 p.m. at Rudd Field.
