FLUSHING, N.Y. – Elon University men’s tennis junior
Cameron Silverman concluded his fall campaign today, Nov. 10, at the Billie Jean King Tennis Center, dropping a 6-2, 6-4, decision to Princeton’s Matija Pecotic on the back draw of the USTA/ITA National Championships.
“I’m extremely proud of the way Cameron battled this weekend and throughout the fall,” said Elon head coach
Michael Leonard. “He’s taken his game to new levels and I am very excited about the way he performed heading into this spring. As a whole, our team played great this fall and I am very excited to get back out on the courts.”
Silverman ends his impressive run this fall with an overall record of 12-5, including a 1-2 performance at the 32-player national tournament this weekend. Silverman is the first Elon tennis player to play in the USTA/ITA National Championships.
In the semifinals of the ITA Carolina Regional in Cary, N.C., in October, Silverman earned one of the most important wins in program history when he topped the nation’s number one player, Henrique Cunha from Duke, in three sets (7-5, 3-6, 6-4) to advance to the singles championship match. During his run in Cary, Silverman went 5-1 with wins over the nation’s top-ranked and 55th-ranked player, as well as the country’s top freshman/newcomer.
