The Series
Elon holds a 6-3 edge in the all-time series with Chattanooga and the maroon and gold has won five of the last six meetings with the Bulldogs.  All nine meetings have come since Elon joined the Southern Conference for the 2003 season.

A Numbers Game
• 20 - Tackles by linebacker Jonathan Spain against Samford; the first 20-plus tackle game for an Elon player since Corey Weaver’s 25 stops at Appalachian State in 2006.
• 4,066 - Career receiving yards by senior Aaron Mellette.  Mellette is one of just two receivers in the history of the Southern Conference to eclipse the 4,000-yard receiving mark.

Reaching for Randy
Senior wide out Aaron Mellette has caught 17 touchdown passes this season.  That number currently ranks as the third-highest receiving TD output in the history of the Southern Conference.  Mellette needs two touchdown catches to match the SoCon single-season record of 19 TD grabs established by Marshall’s Randy Moss in 1996.

4,000
With his 10-catch, 100-yard performance against Samford, Elon receiver Aaron Mellette became just the second player in Southern Conference history to surpass the 4,000-yard receiving mark for his career.  Mellette’s career total sits at 4,066 yards.  Former Elon receiver Terrell Hudgins holds the SoCon and FCS record with 5,250 career receiving yards.

Wrapping Up
Against Samford, both Jonathan Spain and Blake Thompson posted career-best tackle numbers.  Spain finished the day with 20 tackles while Thompson made 17 stops.  Spain was the first Elon player to make 20 tackles in a game since linebacker Corey Weaver did so against Appalachian State in September of 2006.  Spain’s 20 stops moved his season total to 108, the sixth-most tackles by an Elon player in a season since the move to NCAA Division I play for the 1999 campaign.  He is just four shy of Joshua Jones (112 in 2011) for fifth and eight short of Brandon Wiggins (116 in 2010) for fourth.

Player of the Month
For the third time in his career, senior wide receiver Aaron Mellette was honored as the SoCon’s Offensive Player of the Month as he earned the accolade for October.  In just three October outings Mellette racked up 32 catches for 595 yards and eight touchdowns.  He averaged 198.3 receiving yards per game and tied a career high with 237 receiving yards at Appalachian State.
