#29 ASU Evens Series With Elon

Box Score

ELON, N.C. --
Seth Grant threw the second complete game of his career as he helped the visiting Appalachian State Mountaineers to a 5-0 victory over the Elon Phoenix to even a three-game Southern Conference baseball series at a game apiece.

The game was scoreless into the fifth inning when Noah Holmes drew a one-out walk.  With two down and a runner on second, Trey Holmes singled to center to drive in the first run of the contest for the Mountaineers (18-4, 7-1).

Elon (13-11, 7-4) had a prime opportunity to tie the game in the last of the sixth after Jake Luce tripled to center with one out, but Grant retired the next two hitters and kept the Phoenix off the board.

Daniel Kassouf homered to lead off the eighth to make it a 2-0 game before ASU tallied three runs in the ninth inning to provide itself a cushion.

For the Phoenix, Alex Swim singled with two outs in the ninth inning to keep his hitting streak alive.  Swim has now hit in 17 consecutive outings.  Sebastian Gomez also had two hits.

Grant (4-1) scattered just five hits and walked only one to pick up the win.

Spencer Medick (0-1) had a solid outing for the Phoenix, but suffered the loss after he was charged with two runs on eight hits in 7.1 innings.  He struck out six.

Tyler Tewell and Hector Crespo both had two hits for ASU.

The rubber match of this series is set for a 1:30 p.m. start at Latham Park on Sunday.
