ELON, N.C. – Day one of the Elon Fall Invitational concluded today at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center, as the Phoenix women’s tennis team won every one of its singles and doubles matches.
In doubles,
Jordan Johnston and
Frida Jansaker continued to ride their success from last season into the fall, as the duo registered a dominant 8-1 victory over Western Carolina’s Sara Ruiz Pajares and Stacia Kissell. Johnston and Jansaker will take on UNCG’s Kayla Gammie and Stephanie Falcon tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. Both Johnston and Jansaker won their singles matches as well.
Bryn Khoury performed well for the Phoenix in her flight, taking a 7-6, 6-2 decision over Gammie to advance in her bracket.
Maria Camara Ruiz claimed a 6-0, 6-3 win over North Carolina A&T’s Kimberly Stalling in her flight to move on, while
Barbora Lazarova moved on with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Campbell’s Ewa Telenga.
Viviana Stavreva was victorious with a 6-0, 6-1 win over N.C. A&T’s Victorea Austin, while
Briana Berne battled hard to take a three-set win (6-4, 1-6, 6-4) over Western Carolina’s Shannon Bettiol.
Rookie
Caroline Baker was impressive in her debut with the Phoenix, topping Meredith’s Mack Thompson in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0.
The Elon Fall Invitational continues tomorrow at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center, with matches beginning at 9 a.m.
