ELON, N.C. – The Elon University women’s tennis team concluded day two of the Elon Fall Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 15 with the team reaching eight finals scheduled for tomorrow’s finale at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.
Jordan Johnston and
Frida Jansaker both advanced to their flight finals in singles and will square off against one another tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. Johnston registered an impressive come-from-behind win in three sets (5-7, 6-2, 7-6 (2)) over Virginia Tech’s Isel Martinez-Marcos. Jansaker advanced to the finals after battling teammate
Bryn Khoury to a 6-3, 6-2 victory.
Maria Camara Ruiz advanced to the finals in her flight as well, claiming a 7-5, 7-5 win over Campbell’s Tamara Stanic. Camara Ruiz will face USC Upstate’s Taylor Cohen at 10 a.m. in the finals tomorrow morning at 10 a.m.
Viviana Stavreva and
Briana Berne both advanced to the finals in their flight and will square off against one another tomorrow. Berne registered a 6-1, 6-2 victory over USC Upstate’s Talia Rojas, while Stavreva moved on with a 6-3, 6-1 decision over UNCG’s Jaime Grinberg.
The Phoenix will also be featured in all but one doubles final tomorrow morning. Action is set to begin at 10 a.m. at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.
