SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Elon University men’s tennis junior Cameron Silverman has been named the Southern Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday, March 5.
 
Silverman posted a straight-sets win in singles play and teamed up for a win in doubles competition as the Phoenix opened SoCon play with a 6-1 win over the Citadel last week.
 
Silverman, ranked 26th in the nation in singles, posted a 6-4, 6-1 victory over The Citadel’s David Orces at No. 1 singles. Earlier in the match, Silverman teamed with Stefan Fortmann and earned an 8-2 win over Orces and Oliver Dedding at the top doubles position.
 
The Southern Conference’s February Player of the Month, Silverman has now won each of his last three matches in both singles and doubles play. Each of his last three singles wins have come in straight sets.
 
Elon returns to action Saturday at 1 p.m. versus USC Upstate at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.
