ELON, N.C. –
On Senior Day for Briana Berne, the Elon University women’s tennis team defeated the East Carolina Pirates, 7-0, on April 13 at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center. Elon finishes the regular season with a 19-3 record heading into next week’s Southern Conference Tournament. ECU drops to 12-11 with the setback.

"I'm really proud of the way we finished the regular season strong today on Bri's Senior Day," said Elon head coach Elizabeth Anderson. "Bri has given so much positive energy and enthusiasm to our team over the last four years. It was great to see Bri and Taylor step in and pick up great wins in singles. We look forward to carrying this momentum into the Southern Conference Tournament next week."

After trailing the Pirates, 4-1, the tandem of Jordan Johnston and Frida Jansaker stormed back to win the match, 8-4, inching Elon closer to winning the doubles point. Johnston and Jansaker improve to 20-2 on the year. Berne and Taylor Casey clinched the doubles point at No. 3, topping ECU’s Danielle Terpko and Abby Richmond. Following the clinch, the No. 2 doubles match between Elon’s Maria Camara Ruiz/Viviana Stavreva and ECU’s Melis Tanik and Yilian Zhang was called when the two teams were tied, 8-all.

Casey pushed the Phoenix out to a 2-0 lead at the No. 6 spot after an impressive 6-1, 6-0, victory over East Carolina’s Richmond. Casey improves to 3-1 on the year in singles play with the win.

At No. 4, Barbora Lazarova extended Elon’s lead to 3-0 after a 6-1, 6-2, decision versus East Carolina’s Danielle Terpko. With the win, Lazarova moves her season record to 16-8 this season.

Johnston pushed Elon out to a 5-0 lead at No. 1 after battling Neena Wanko to a 6-3, 7-6 (7-4), decision. Johnston improves to 14-9 on the season with the win.

Bryn Khoury grinded out a three-set win at No. 3 for the Phoenix, topping ECU’s Zhang, 6-2, 3-6, 10-7. Khoury joins Jansaker in Elon’s 20-win club, extending her season record to 20-4.
