Southern Conference Announces Postseason Women’s Tennis Awards

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Southern Conference announced its postseason women’s tennis awards today, April 16. Jordan Johnston was a first-team selection in singles and in doubles with teammate Frida Jansaker, while Jansaker and Bryn Khoury picked up second-team all-conference accolades in singles. The doubles team of Briana Berne and Taylor Casey earned second-team all-league honors as well.
 
Johnston, the league’s player of the week on March 5, enters this week’s tournament with a record of 14-9 in singles play, including a 6-4 mark against league competition. Johnston has played every match at No. 1 singles for the Phoenix this season.
 
Johnston and Jansaker have had an outstanding season as Elon’s top doubles team, going 20-2 overall and 9-1 against league foes. The duo has won eight consecutive matches heading into this week’s tournament. Dating back to last season, Johnston and Jansaker have an overall record of 40-4 in doubles play.
 
In singles, Jansaker has put together an outstanding junior campaign for the maroon and gold at the No. 2 spot. Last week’s SoCon Player of the Week, Jansaker enters this week’s tournament with a 20-3 record in singles action, including an 8-1 mark against league competition. She has won nine of her last ten singles matches and is currently riding an eight-match winning streak.
 
Khoury joined Jansaker in Elon’s 20-win club over the weekend against ECU, as the junior from Greenville, N.C., enter this week’s tournament with a 20-4 record this season. Khoury is 9-1 against league competition this season and won five consecutive matches. Khoury has won nine of her last ten matches going into Friday’s competition.
 
Berne and Casey have been solid for the Phoenix in doubles all season long. The duo enters this week’s tournament with a 9-2 record, including a 6-2 mark against league foes. Berne and Casey have won four consecutive matches and eight of their last ten.
 
Elon has had its most successful season in program history this season, posting a 19-3 record and an 8-2 record in league play. The Phoenix earned the No. 2 seed in the tournament and will play its first match on Friday, April 19, at 1 p.m. at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center. Elon faces the winner of seventh-seeded Georgia Southern and tenth-seeded Wofford.
