ELON, N.C. –
The second-seeded Elon University women’s tennis swept its opponent for the second straight day, topping the third-seeded Furman Paladins, 4-0, on April 20 in the semifinals of the 2013 Southern Conference Women’s Tennis Championship.

Elon (21-3) advances to the SoCon Women’s Tennis Championship title match tomorrow to face top-seeded College of Charleston at 10 a.m. at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.

Frida Jansaker clinched the match for the maroon and gold, battling Furman’s Alex Moreno-Kaste to a 6-4, 7-5, decision at No. 2 singles to give the Phoenix its fourth and final point.

Elon won the doubles point earlier in the match, as Jansaker and Jordan Johnston topped Furman’s No. 1 team of Moreno-Kaste and Lauren Kline, 9-7, to clinch it. Earlier, Briana Berne and Taylor Casey won 8-6 at No. 3 versus Furman’s Kelly Sullivan and Margaret Boyette.

Johnston pushed Elon out to a 2-0 lead at No. 1 singles, battling Kline to a 7-5, 6-2, decision.

Later, Maria Camara Ruiz helped the Phoenix take a 3-0 advantage at No. 6, as the sophomore claimed a 6-4, 6-4, victory over Sullivan.

Jansaker clinched it for the Phoenix shortly thereafter, pushing her season record to 22-3.

Tomorrow marks Elon’s first ever appearance in the SoCon title match. A win would give the Phoenix the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
