Riddle Among 20 on Preseason Payton Watch List X [7/12/2010] Elon quarterback Scott Riddle has been named as one of the 20 Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) players on the Walter Payton Award Watch List which is presented to the top offensive player at the FCS level. The award is sponsored by Fathead.com. The Payton Award is in its 24th season and will be presented on Thursday, January 6 in Frisco, Texas – the night prior to the FCS National Championship Game. Elon Finishes Strong in SoCon All-Sport Championships X [6/1/2010] Elon finished third in the Germann Cup Standings, an award presented to the Southern Conference’s best overall women’s athletics program, and fifth in the standings for the Commissioner’s Cup for excellence in men’s athletics for the 2009-10 athletic season. The Elon women came in just 3.5 points behind the second-place finisher College of Charleston. Samford took home the honor after finishing fourth or better in nine league-sponsored sports. Elon Athletics Announces 2009-10 Award Winners X [5/10/2010] The Elon University Department of Athletics held its 36th annual athletics awards banquet on Monday evening at Alumni Gymnasium, recognizing and remembering many of the outstanding performances of the 2009-10 school year. Three-time first-team All-American senior wide receiver Terrell Hudgins and senior Southern Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Year Anna Milian were selected as the Stein H. Hudgins to Sign Free Agent Contract With Dallas Cowboys X [4/25/2010] Terrell Hudgins, the most prolific pass-catcher in the history of NCAA Division I football, has agreed to sign a rookie free agent contract with the National Football League's Dallas Cowboys. He becomes the second Elon player to continue his career in the NFL in the last four seasons, joining Chad Nkang who played two seasons for the Jacksonville Jaguars. Football Players Work Out for Pro Scouts X [3/17/2010] Elon seniors Terrell Hudgins, David Harrison, Andre Campbell, Nolan Ward and Eric Ludwig worked out for scouts from multiple NFL teams –including the Carolina Panthers, Denver Broncos and New York Giants – on Tuesday. The workouts began in the Elon weight room where the quintet went through the broad jump, vertical jump and bench press. The Night of the Phoenix Raises Record Amount X [2/22/2010] The third annual The Night of the Phoenix, held Friday, February 19 in Alumni Gymnasium on Elon's campus, set an event record, raising over $87,000 for student-athlete scholarships. Through three years of existence, The Night of the Phoenix has now raised over $211,000 in annual scholarship support for the Phoenix Club. Three Elon Players Named to SoCon All-Decade Team X [1/27/2010] Despite playing in the Southern Conference for just seven seasons, the Elon Phoenix football program had three players recognized on SouthernPigskin.com's SoCon All-Decade Team. CSN Names Three Phoenix to All-American Teams X [12/29/2009] Elon senior receiver Terrell Hudgins was named to the College Sporting News FCS Fabulous Fifty All-American Team for the third consecutive season while senior offensive guard David Harrison and senior defensive back Karlos Sullivan were honorable mention picks. Hudgins was one of 10 unanimous selections this season. The trio led Elon to a 9-3 overall record as well as a 7-1 Southern Conference ledger and its first-ever appearance in the FCS playoffs.
