Maroon Team Defeats White Squad 14-0 in Spring Game X [4/24/2010] Thomas Wilson threw for 91 yards while Brandon Newsome carried 13 times for 34 yards and a touchdown to lead the Maroon team to a 14-0 victory over the White squad in Elon's annual spring football game. Elon Rally Falls Short at No. 4 Richmond X [11/28/2009] The ninth-ranked Elon Phoenix faced an early deficit, but battled valiantly and had a chance to send the game to overtime before falling 16-13 to the fourth-ranked and fourth-seeded Richmond Spiders in the first round of the 2009 NCAA FCS playoffs. Elon concludes its season with a 9-3 overall record while Richmond improves to 11-1 on the year and advances to the quarterfinals. Elon Wins at Samford; Will Learn Playoff Fate Sunday X [11/21/2009] In a battle of two of the country's top-15 defenses, it was the Elon offense which was able to put points on the board to lead the 10th-ranked Phoenix to a 27-7 Southern Conference football victory over the home-standing Samford Bulldogs in the regular-season finale for both squads. The win improved Elon to 9-2 overall and 7-1 in the SoCon and improved the Phoenix's chances for a playoff berth. The nine-win season was the first for the program since 1999. Hudgins Catches Three TDs to Send Elon Past UTC X [10/24/2009] The Elon defense did not allow a touchdown until the fourth quarter for the third consecutive outing while Scott Riddle hooked up with Terrell Hudgins for three aerial scores as the seventh-ranked Phoenix routed the Chattanooga Mocs by a 45-10 margin on Homecoming on Saturday afternoon. Elon's Defense Dominates in 43-7 Win Over The Citadel X [10/10/2009] A dominating defensive performance and a few quick strikes early lifted the 10th-ranked Elon Phoenix to a 43-7 Southern Conference victory over the visiting Bulldogs of The Citadel from Rhodes Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Elon is now 5-1 overall and 3-0 in SoCon play and picked up its first-ever back-to-back wins over the Bulldogs. The Citadel dropped to 2-3, 0-2. Riddle Sets SoCon Records in Win Over Georgia Southern X [9/26/2009] The Elon Phoenix became just the second Southern Conference program to earn three consecutive league victories over the Georgia Southern Eagles by claiming a 28-14 decision from a rainy Rhodes Stadium in front of 10,189 fans on Family Weekend. In the victory, Elon quarterback Scott Riddle set new SoCon records for career completions and career passing yards. Elon Totals 614 Total Yards in Rout of Presbyterian X [9/12/2009] Scott Riddle set Southern Conference records by passing for 300 or more yards for the 13th time in his career and throwing touchdown passes 60, 61, 62 and 63 for his career as the Elon Phoenix (2-0) romped over the host Presbyterian Blue Hose (0-2) by a 41-7 margin on Saturday afternoon from Bailey Memorial Stadium. No. 10 Elon to Travel to Presbyterian This Weekend X [9/9/2009] The Elon Phoenix football team, ranked as high as 10th in the nation, will return to the field at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday to take on the Presbyterian Blue Hose from Clinton, S.C. The game will be broadcast live on WPCM 920 AM and for free on-line at www.elonphoenix.com beginning with the pregame show one hour prior to kickoff. Little Change in National Polls for Elon X [9/7/2009] After defeating the Davidson Wildcats by a 56-0 margin on Saturday night, the Elon Phoenix moved up to 10th, improving one place, in The Sports Network Top-25 Poll and held steady at No. 11 in the FCS Coaches Poll. Defending national champion Richmond moved into the top spot in both polls after defeating Duke by a 24-16 score.
