2009 SoCon Champs to Receive Rings on Saturday X [10/23/2009] The 2009 Southern Conference champion Elon Phoenix baseball squad will receive its championship rings prior to Saturday's Homecoming football game against the Chattanooga Mocs. The baseball team will then be recognized on the field at halftime of the football contest. The 2009 title was the third in the past four seasons for the Phoenix, which also earned the 2008 SoCon crown. Last season's team finished the year with a 41-18 overall record. Austin, Irvine Set to Make Pro Debuts X [6/19/2009] Recent Major League Baseball draft picks Chase Austin and Pat Irvine are both set to make their professional debuts on Friday night in the New York-Penn League, a short-season A league. Austin, the fifth round pick of the Florida Marlins, will be playing for the Jamestown Jammers while Irvine, a 33rd round selection of the Pittsburgh Pirates, will play for the State College Spikes. Four More Phoenix Players Chosen on Day Three X [6/11/2009] On the final day of the 2009 Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft, the Elon Phoenix saw four more players selected. Pat Irvine became the fourth Phoenix baseball player selected in the draft when the Pittsburgh Pirates selected him in the 33rd round. Joining him were Tom Porter who went to the San Diego Padres in the 40th round, Justin Hilt who was chosen in the 41st round by the Oakland A's and Bennett Davis who went to the Tampa Bay Rays in the 42nd round. Georgia Tech Ends Elon's 2009 Baseball Season X [5/31/2009] One bad inning led to the end of the 2009 Elon Phoenix baseball season as the 13th-ranked Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets scored seven second inning runs on their way to an 8-4 victory in an elimination game of the Atlanta Regional on Sunday afternoon. Phoenix Falls Short in NCAA Opener X [5/29/2009] Bennett Davis homered three times and drove in four runs while Chase Austin drove in five runs, but it was not enough as the second-seeded and 22nd-ranked Elon Phoenix fell to the third-seeded Southern Miss Golden Eagles by a 17-15 margin in the first game of the Atlanta Regional of the 2009 NCAA Baseball Championship. Georgia Southern Knocks Off Elon in Title Game X [5/24/2009] The Elon Phoenix fell short of becoming the first team to win back-to-back Southern Conference Tournament titles since The Citadel in 1998-1999 as the Georgia Southern Eagles handed the Phoenix a 7-1 defeat in the title game. Elon is now 40-16 while Georgia Southern improved to 42-15. Georgia Southern earned the leauge's automatic bid into the NCAA Regionals while Elon's fate now sits in the hands of the committee. Phoenix Advances to SoCon Title Game X [5/23/2009] Thomas Girdwood tied the SoCon single-season record with his 17th save after working a scoreless inning and a third and Chase Austin belted his program-record 22nd homer to lead the 22nd-ranked and top-seeded Elon Phoenix past the third-seeded The Citadel Bulldogs in an elimination game of the 2009 Southern Conference Tournament on Saturday night. Bulldogs Stay Alive With Win Over Elon X [5/23/2009] Third-seeded The Citadel saw Asher Wojciechowski fan a career-best 15 hitters and allow just one run as the Bulldogs knocked off the 22nd-ranked and top-seeded Elon Phoenix by a 5-1 margin in the 2009 Southern Conference Tournament on Saturday morning. The Phoenix saw its six-game winning streak snapped and is now 39-15. The Bulldogs improved to 37-21. The two teams will face off again at 5 p.m. this evening in an elimination game. Austin Climbs Elon Record Books in Win Over WCU X [5/22/2009] Chase Austin continued his assault on the Elon record book by belting two more homers recording three hits. He also tied a career-high with six RBI while teammate Bennett Davis hit for the cycle as the 22nd-ranked Phoenix routed the Western Carolina Catamounts by a 15-7 margin in the 2009 Southern Conference Baseball Tournament from Fluor Field in Greenville, S.C. on Thursday night. Melillo Slams No. 22 Elon to Victory Over Furman X [5/20/2009] Mike Melillo's eighth inning grand slam proved to be the deciding factor as the top-seeded and 22nd-ranked Elon Phoenix rallied past the host and eighth-seeded Furman Paladins for a 10-8 victory in game three of the 2009 Southern Conference Tournament from Fluor Field in Greenville, S.C. on Wednesday night.
