Elon Men Finish First at Elon Invitational

Justin Gianni paced the Elon men’s cross country team to a first-place finish with a time of 26:05, good enough for second place, at the Elon Invitational on Saturday morning. Sophomore Will Schefer recorded Elon’s other top-five finish with a third-place finish and a time of 26:12. Furman’s Charlie McGogan took home the individual title with a time of 25:52. Matt Richardson was Elon’s other top-10 performer with an eighth-place time of 26:39.

Gianni, Schefer and Richardson Pace Elon to Second

Justin Gianni, Will Schefer and Matt Richardson finished seventh, eighth and ninth, respectively, at the Asics Winthrop Invitational to lead the Elon men's cross country squad to a second-place finish, just two points behind Southern Conference foe Davidson. Gianni posted a personal-best time of 25:47.85, which ranks as the sixth-best time in the Elon record book. Shefer ran a time of 25:53.59, landing him eighth in Elon's top-10 times while Richardson's mark of 26:00.77 is good for 10th-best.

Gianni Breaks Record and Leads Phoenix at Louisville Classic

Elon junior Justin Gianni clocked a school-record time of 25:39 for a 90th-place finish at the Louisville Classic in Louisville, Ky., to lead the Phoenix men’s cross country team to a 26th overall team finish. In all, 38 teams competed at the Louisville Classic, including squads from Louisville, Kentucky, Tennesseee and Middle Tennessee State. Gianni’s time bested the previous Elon record of 25:41 that was set last season at the Winthrop Invitational and marks his second top-10 time.

Richardson Paces Elon at Blue Ridge Open

Matt Richardson ran a 25:59.03 for a 28th-place finish to lead the Elon men’s cross country team to an eighth-place finish at the Blue Ridge Open, hosted by Appalachian State in Boone, N.C., on Friday afternoon. Elon finished ahead of Southern Conference rivals Western Carolina, College of Charleston and UNC Greensboro. High Point finished first out of the field of 19 teams. Elon will return to action on October 31 when it hosts the Southern Conference Championship.

Richardson Earns All-SoCon Honors as Team Finishes Fifth

Junior Matt Richardson earned second team all-conference honors as he led the men’s cross country team to a fifth-place finish at the Southern Conference Championship Saturday morning in Elon, N.C. Richardson posted a time of 25:45.65 to finish 11th out of 87 competitors. Richardson became the first Elon men’s runner to earn all-conference accolades since 1996 when the squad had four members named to the All- South Atlantic Conference team.

Gianni Leads Elon to 20th at NCAA Regional

Justin Gianni finished 59th in a field of 231 runners to lead the Elon men's cross country team to a 20th-place finish in a field of 35 teams at the NCAA Southeast Regional on Saturday morning. Gianni posted a 10K time of 32:10.93. Elon placed above of Southern Conference foes Furman, Western Carolina, College of Charleston and Wofford. Matt Richardson was Elon's second finisher, coming in 68th with at time of 32:21.15, while Will Schefer placed 95th after recording a time of 32:51.44.
