Judy Sits Second, Elon Ninth After Day One

Despite Jayson Judy's two rounds of 70 and 67 for a total of 137, the Elon Phoenix men's golf team opened its 2009-10 year by sitting ninth among the 16-team field following the first two rounds of the Springhill Suites Intercollegiate hosted by Francis Marion on Monday. Judy, who is tied for second individually, is just one stroke off the lead held by Appalachian State's Casey Johnson. The third and final round will be held at the Country Club of South Carolina on Tuesday.

Judy Ties for Individual Title at Opening Tournament

Elon's Jayson Judy carded a final round score of 70 and a three-round total of 207 to finish tied for medalists honors with Appalachian State's Casey Johnson in the Springhill Suites Intercollegiate on Tuesday. The Elon men's golf team shot a 293 in the second round of the Sea Trail Intercollegiate and currently sits in 12th place with a two-round score of 585. Elon Men Finish Tied for Sixth at Sea Trail Intercollegiate

The Elon men's golf team shot a 285 in the final round of the Sea Trail Men's Intercollegiate to finish in a tie for sixth place with a final score of 870. Jayson Judy led Elon in the tournament, placing in a tie for 10th with a three-day score of 212 (71-70-71). Tanner Norton shot a three-under-par 69 on Sunday to led the Phoenix. Stetson took home the team championship while Wofford placed second and James Madison finished third.

Playing in rainy conditions with temperatures hovering in the mid-50s, the Elon men's golf team struggled through 36 holes on the first day of the Davidson College Invitational to sit in ninth place among the 12 participating programs. The Phoenix posted a two-round score of 618 (309-309). Liberty leads the field after firing a 591 (287-304) on Monday. Jayson Judy's 147 (74-73) paces Elon.
