Tara McFadden fired a three-under par round 69 and is tied for the individual lead while the Elon Phoenix is tied for the team lead following a first round score of 286 at the Great Smokies Intercollegiate. Tournament host Western Carolina is tied with Elon atop the leaderboard and the Lady Catamounts' Malin Jansson is tied with McFadden. The final round will be played at the Waynesville Inn - Golf Resort and Spa in Waynesville, N.C. on Sunday.

Elon, McFadden Share Tournament Title

The second and final round of the 11th Annual Great Smokies Intercollegiate was cancelled due to heavy rains in the area. The Elon Phoenix and host Western Carolina Catamounts were declared the co-champions after each squad carded a first round total of 286 on Saturday from the Waynesville Inn – Golf Resort and Spa. Elon's Tara McFadden was one of four co-individual winners with a first round score of 69.

Davis Guides Elon to Fourth After Opening Round

Diana Davis carded a 74 and currently sits in ninth place to lead the Elon women's golf squad to fourth place with a score of 304 after the first round of the Sea Trail Women's Intercollegiate on Friday morning. Western Carolina leads the tournament after posting a score of 293. Katelyn Stanier leads the women's field with a two-under 70 to pace the Samford Bulldogs to second place with a score of 294. Elon Women Sit in Fourth at Sea Trail Intercollegiate

The Elon women's golf team shot a 303 in the second round of the Sea Trail Intercollegiate on Saturday morning to hold on to the fourth-place spot. Tara McFadden carded a 74 to lead the Phoenix and she currently sits in a tie for seventh with a two-day score of 150 (76-74). Teammate Diana Davis also sits tied for seventh after posting a 76 on Saturday. Longwood leads the field with a score of 594 followed by Western Carolina in second (595) and Samford in third (598).

McFadden, Davis Help Elon to Fourth-Place Finish

Tara McFadden and Diana Davis each finished in the top 10 to lead the Elon women's golf team to a fourth-place finish at the Sea Trail Women's Intercollegiate. McFadden posted a three-round score of 223 (76-74-73) to finish in a tie for fifth while Davis placed eighth with a final score of 225 (74-76-75). Western Carolina took home the team title with a score of 897 while Longwood placed second (898) and Samford finished third (908).

Women's Golf Takes 10th in Final Fall Event

The Elon Phoenix women's golf team concluded its fall schedule of events on Tuesday with the third round of the 2009 Palmetto Intercollegiate hosted by Southern Conference rival College of Charleston. The Phoenix notched a 10th-place showing in its final fall event with Tara McFadden finishing in a tie for sixth in the 93-golfer field. Elon's tournament total was 918 after a final round 308.
