Indoor Track Opens Season at Liberty Kickoff Invitational

The Elon tracksters opened their indoor season Thursday afternoon at the Liberty Kickoff Invitational in Lynchburg, Va. In the 60-meter dash, Amanda Rice clocked a time of 9.49 for an eighth-place overall finish. Monique Vines crossed the finish line in 8.16 and was the eighth-best collegiate runner. The Elon indoor track and field team returns to action on January 23 when it travels to the University of North Carolina for the Carolina Classic.

Day Sets School Record in Triple Jump

Veronica Day set a new a school record in the triple jump with a fifth-place distance of 37' 9 1/2" as the Elon indoor track team resumed its season at the UNC Classic on Saturday. Day also finished fifth in the long jump with a distance of 18' 2". Jennine Strange placed fifth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:20. The distance medley relay team made up of Day, Christine Pacewicz, Caitlin Beeler and Courtney Wahlen earned a second-place finish with a time of 12:49.

Three Runners Place in Top Five of 5K at Liberty Open

On the first day of the Liberty Open, three Elon Phoenix runners placed in the top five participants in the 5,000-meter run. It was the only event in which Elon tracksters were entered on day one of the two-day indoor meet held at the Tolsma Indoor Track. Women's events at the 2010 Liberty Open will resume with the pole vault at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday morning.

Day Breaks Own School Record at Liberty Open

For the second consecutive weekend, Elon's Veronica Day established a new program record in the triple jump. After soaring 37' 9.5" a week ago, Day launched a distance of 38' 2.25" to place second in the event during the 2010 Liberty Open on Saturday. Day and Jennine Strange also each won individual events. Their event titles were two of six top-three Phoenix placements over the two-day event.

Day Breaks Record at Third Straight Meet

Veronica Day broke her own school record in the triple jump for the third-straight meet with a distance of 38’4” at the Vince Brown Invitational on the campus of Christopher Newport in Newport News, Va. The 4x400-meter relay team, made up of Day, Melissa Turowski, Amy Salek and Jennine Strange, also took home a title with a time of 4:05.11.

Day Breaks Two School Records at Liberty Quad

Veronica Day continued her impressive indoor season, breaking two school records on her way to two individual championships at the Liberty Quad in Lynchburg, Va. Day broke her own school record in the triple jump for the fourth straight meet with a distance of 38’9 ¾”. She earned her second championship of the day in the long jump with a mark of 18’11 ¾”, breaking a school record that has stood since 2007.

Jennine Strange Earns Season Best in 800m

Jennine Strange crossed the line as the sixth-best collegian in the 800-meter run with a season-best time of 2:14.87 as members of the Elon indoor track and field team competed at the Virginia Tech Challenge on Saturday afternoon in Blacksburg, Va. Elon will compete in the Southern Conference Indoor Championships on February 25-26 in Clemson, S.C.
