Alumni Memorial Gymnasium (Alumni Gym) was dedicated on January 14, 1950. Its current capacity is 1,607. The gymnasium honors Elon alumni who lost their lives in World Wars I and II. Five years after World War II, the Alumni Memorial Gymnasium replaced the Alumni Memorial Building, commonly called the North Dorm. When the new gymnasium was completed in January of 1950, a memorial plaque in the entrance foyer carried the names of four Elon alumni who died in World War I and 33 who gave their lives in World War II.

Alumni Gym recently underwent renovations which included the addition of stadium-style seating in a horseshoe shape around the court. The updates also included new scoreboards and video boards along with new locker rooms and a new entrance at the south end of the facility. In thanks for a generous gift, the playing court was renamed Robertson Court.

Alumni Gym has played host to many notable games throughout the history of Elon basketball. Elon has sold out Alumni Gym 15 times under current head coach Matt Matheny, including a record crowd of 1,876 on Feb. 28, 2015 versus UNCW. Elon hosted a nationally-ranked opponent for the first time on Jan. 18, 2014, when the Phoenix welcomed No. 15 UMass to Alumni Gym.

On the women's side, the Phoenix had its best Division I season to date in 2016-17 in winning 27 games overall, including 11 at home. The season saw Elon set multiple new Alumni Gym attendance records, drawing four of the top six attended contests in women's basketball's Division I history, which included a record 1,412 spectators Jan. 20 for a CAA battle against James Madison. At the conclusion of the regular season, the Phoenix claimed its first Division I championship by defeating UNCW 82-48 inside Alumni Gym in front of 1,234 fans. With the victory, Elon earned the top overall seed in the CAA Championship and took advantage of it in defeating its three tournament opponents in Harrisonburg, Va., by an average of nearly 25 points per game on the way to punching its ticket to the NCAA Tournament.

The retired jerseys of Jesse Branson ('65) and Tommy Cole ('72) hang from the Alumni Gym rafters.  Branson is Elon's all-time leading scorer, having netted 2,241 points in his career.  Cole ended his career in the maroon and gold with 2,214 points, ranking second in program history.

Alumni Gym is also home to the Phoenix volleyball team, which compiled its best record at the NCAA Division I level in 2009 by going 23-8 on the season. In 2010, the Phoenix secured a share of its first SoCon North Division crown by defeating Appalachian State 3-0 on November 12 before claiming the title outright with a 3-0 victory over Western Carolina the next day.
