Elon Falls To North Carolina A&T In Game One of Weekend Series

Greensboro, N.C.- The Elon University baseball team fell to North Carolina A&T on Friday night. The Phoenix moves to 8-14 in conference play as the Aggies take game one of the weekend series with a final score of 8-4.

Kenny Mallory Jr. and Charlie Granatell both had multi-hit games, combining for four of Elon's eight hits on the night.

How It Happened
  • NC A&T struck first with a solo homerun in the bottom of the second. The Aggies tacked on two more, one in the second and one in the third.
  • Elon was able to get its first run of the night in the top of the fourth by taking advantage of a throwing error to bring Mallory Jr. home.
  • The Aggies put up four in the bottom of the fourth and ended starter Justin Mitrovich's night after 3.2 innings of work and made the score 7-1.
  • The pitching settled in as Christo Garrelts came in for relief, tossing 2.1 innings and giving up just one unearned run.
  • The Phoenix tried to start the rally in the top of the eighth with a two-run home run by Mallory Jr.
  • Back to back singles by Granatell and Alex Duffey gave Elon some baserunners, but they were ultimately left stranded.
  • Hudson Narke closed out the game on the mound and pitched two scoreless innings and held the Aggies hitless.
  • James Broderick led off the top of the ninth with a single and moved to third via a double by Vince Fattore. 
  • Shane Paradine entered the game as a pinch hitter and slapped an RBI single into center field to score Broderick.
  • The Phoenix was unable to complete the comeback, ending the game by hitting into a double play as it was defeated 8-4.
Notes and Stats
  • Justin Mitrovich got the start for the Phoenix and pitched 3.2 innings. He gave up seven runs on 12 hits while striking out five.
  • Kenny Mallory Jr.'s two-run blast is his sixth homerun of the season, tying him for the team lead with Charlie Granatell.
  • Hudson Narke's two innings of work were good for his first hitless outing of his Elon career.
